The Foxes Come to Iowa!

Yesterday at 8:45am, Dennis and I drove to Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids to pick up Ma and Pa Fox. Our hosts, the Browns, happened to be departing for Vermont for the weekend from the very same airport about 30 minutes after the Foxes' plane was due to arrive. So we left the house at about the same time, in our two separate cars, and the Browns had the chance to meet the Foxes, if only for a few minutes.

Upon returning to Iowa City, we ate a nice breakfast at Lou Henri's, a local fave, and then spent much of the day resting, as Colleen and Bob had spent the entire night on planes and in airports, and Dennis and I had risen considerably earlier than we've been accustomed to on our skewed theatre schedule.

So the two of them saw 'Shrew' last night, and then we had an incredibly fancy late dinner of pizza and red wine. Bob Fox, who has attended many productions of Shakespeare's plays at Ashland Shakes in Oregon, boldly stated that this was the first time he understood and enjoyed the Bard. We'll take that compliment!

We spent most of the day today exploring downtown Iowa City, breakfasting at the famous Hamburg Inn No. 2, visiting the equally famous indie bookstore Prairie Lights, and checking out the various goings-on of the annual Jazz Festival, which is taking place all weekend.

Tonight, the Foxes will be in attendance at 'The Imaginary Invalid.' We'll post the verdict on that one tomorrow...
